What is a health insurance card?
The health insurance card is the name of the yellow health insurance card, and entitles you to health services. You must bring your health insurance card with you when you have an appointment with your GP, a specialist, dentist, dental hygienist, physiotherapist, chiropodist, chiropractor, psychologist, chemist, hospital or the municipal authority.
Your name, civil registration number and contact information for your GP appear on the card.
Who receives a health insurance card?
Everyone with residence in Denmark is covered by health legislation and receives a health insurance card.
Newborn babies are automatically sent a health insurance card after they have been christened or given a name.
Order a new health insurance card
If you lose your health insurance card, or if it is borken etc., you can order a new card online. If you are not able to do this yourself, you can get help at the municipal citizen service centre or at the library. You can also order a new health insurance card for a child living at home until they are 18 years of age. If you are more than 15 years of age, you can order a new health insurance card yourself. This requires that you have NemID.
